Labyrinth for Peace FAQ
-
No, this labyrinth is our gift to the community.
-
Sadly, this labyrinth is not handicap accessible. Although this Labyrinth is level, it is not easily traveled with a wheel chair because the paths are narrow, nor is it able to be traveled with a rollator because the mulch is difficult to navigate.

Yes, we encourage children to walk the labyrinth. It makes us smile to see them. We ask that children be supervised and over time are taught to respect other participants' boundaries and quietly engage in the meditation process. We know these lessons take time. There is a reason Labyrinths are starting to be installed at preschools. They can be very calming.
-
No, we do not allow pets to walk within the actual labyrinth. Dogs actually have a hard time making the turns. Please keep your pets on the sidewalk or front grass area, unless you can carry your pet.

We have chosen to integrate the Native American four directions into our Labyrinth by placing 4 heart stones. This is our small way of acknowledging and honoring the Native Americans of the Seneca and Cayuga Indians who were forced from this land in 1831. The stones were found buried in our yard and it seemed fitting that they should be a part of our labyrinth.
Popular interpretation of the four directions include:
1. Stages of Life: birth, youth, adulthood, death
2. Seasons of the year: spring, summer, fall, winter
3. Elements of Nature: Fire, Earth, Air, Water
4. Human Dimensions: spiritual, emotional, intellectual, physical
Some people like to face the four directions when in the center and use these themes as a way to meditate, pray, remember.

We would love to host your group in a labyrinth walk. Walking a labyrinth can be a wonderful activity for work teams, youth groups of all faiths, scout groups, support groups, family reunions, etc. We would gladly lead your group in a labyrinth walk with a little bit of instruction at the beginning and some debrief at the end.
If you would like to bring a larger group to walk the labyrinth during daylight or in the dark, we ask that you contact us to schedule a time. For group labyrinth walks, we are able to provide seating as needed. We also have parking instructions to be sensitive to our wonderful neighborhood.
